Wheatley M&E Services

Hi Nigel,

I'll be straight — this is a cold approach. We build bespoke job management platforms for M&E and building services contractors.

I came across Wheatley while looking at M&E contractors in Yorkshire and wanted to get in touch. I put this page together first so you can see what we actually looked at, rather than just taking my word for it.

What we found — The business

Wheatley is running some serious schemes across Yorkshire

Family-owned since 1997, full-spectrum M&E — design, installation, testing and inspection across commercial, industrial, retail, and public sector. The project list speaks for itself: a 12-storey BTR in Sheffield, Bierley Crematorium, an 80-bed care home in Cleckheaton, a 402-bed student block in Leeds. Clients including Rolls Royce, HSBC, Carlsberg, and the MOD.

The in-house Revit and 3D design team is notable — most contractors at this size don't have that capability in-house.

A question — Operations

How does coordination work once a job leaves the design team?

With multiple live schemes running simultaneously — different sites, different engineers, different subcontractors — there's a lot of moving parts to keep track of. The bit we couldn't see from the outside is how job scheduling, engineer dispatch, compliance sign-off and subcontractor coordination happens day-to-day.

In similar businesses we often see this running across a mix of tools — spreadsheets, email chains, phone calls. It works, but it can get harder to manage as the project list grows. It may well be that Wheatley has this handled — but it felt worth raising.

Positive — Strong foundations

The project credentials are genuinely impressive

25+ years, family-owned, blue-chip client base, in-house design capability. That's a business that's earned its reputation through delivery. Any platform we'd build would be designed to support how Wheatley already works — not add friction to it.

What we could help with

  • Job and project scheduling — multiple live schemes, one clear view for the office
  • Engineer dispatch and site app — job details, compliance checklists, sign-off from the field
  • Design-to-site handover — connecting what leaves the Revit team to what the engineers work from on site
  • Compliance and RAMS tracking — document management built into the job workflow
  • Subcontractor coordination — assignments, communications and sign-off in one place
  • Labour, wages and reporting — timesheet data feeding through automatically
